How to Make a Soothing Cannabis-Infused Floral Tea
This cannabis-infused floral tea is a comforting and aromatic blend featuring Ceylon black tea, jasmine green tea, dried rose petals, and lavender. The subtle floral notes and slight earthiness of the tea pair perfectly with a homemade cannabis tincture, which can be made ahead of time and stored for up to a year. With the ability to customize both the flavor and the THC dosage, this tea is an ideal way to enjoy the benefits of cannabis in a gentle and enjoyable way.
Step 1: Make the Cannabis Tincture
Before cannabis can be added to the tea, it must first undergo decarboxylation (decarbing) to activate its beneficial compounds. This process gently heats the cannabis to make its effects more bioavailable. Afterward, the cannabinoids are extracted into alcohol, creating a long-lasting tincture that can be used in a variety of recipes.
Ingredients for the Cannabis Tincture:
8 ounces high-proof alcohol (such as Everclear, rum, or vodka – at least 80 proof)
1 to 3 grams cannabis flower (see note on strain selection below)
Instructions:
Decarb the Cannabis: Preheat the oven to 220°F. Spread the cannabis on a small baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes. Let cool.
Freeze the Alcohol and Cannabis: Pour the alcohol into an 8-ounce glass jar, seal the lid, and place in the freezer for 1 hour. Also freeze the decarbed cannabis separately.
Combine and Infuse: Add the cannabis to the jar of alcohol, seal tightly, and shake vigorously for several minutes. Return the jar to the freezer for 24 hours, shaking it 3 to 4 times during this period.
Strain the Tincture: Line a fine-mesh strainer with a paper coffee filter and place it over a large liquid measuring cup. Pour the tincture through the filter, discarding the solids.
Store Properly: Using a small funnel, pour the strained tincture into dark glass dropper bottles for long-term storage.
Storage Tip: Keep the tincture refrigerated for up to one year. The tincture will become more potent and darker over time.
Step 2: Make the Floral Tea Blend
This tea blend combines rich and floral flavors that complement the botanical notes of the cannabis tincture.
Ingredients for the Tea Blend:
¾ cup Ceylon black tea leaves
¾ cup jasmine green tea leaves
1 tbsp dried rose petals (food-safe)
1 tbsp dried lavender (food-safe)
1 tbsp blue cornflower petals (optional)
1 tbsp dried jasmine flowers (optional)
Instructions:
Mix the Ingredients: Combine all tea ingredients in an airtight container. Store until ready to use.
Brew the Tea: Steep 1 teaspoon of the blend in 1½ cups of boiling water for 5 minutes (or adjust steeping time to preference).
Add the Cannabis Tincture: Stir in the desired amount of tincture, keeping in mind that each tablespoon contains approximately 6 mg THC (based on a 20% THC strain).
Sweeten as Desired: Enjoy your tea as-is or with honey or another sweetener of your choice.
Customizing Your Tea Experience
Flavor Adjustments: Experiment with different strains of cannabis to enhance certain flavors. Some strains are fruity and sweet, while others have earthy or herbal undertones.
Dosage Control: Start with a low amount of cannabis tincture and adjust based on your tolerance and desired effects.
Pairing Tip: This tea pairs beautifully with light snacks, pastries, or citrus-infused desserts.
By combining a carefully crafted tea blend with a homemade cannabis tincture, you can enjoy a customizable, calming, and flavorful cannabis tea experience. Always consume responsibly and be mindful of your local cannabis regulations.
